Let's See...I need Milk, Diapers, Eggs, etc.,.

Sen. John McCain went shopping with a typical, everday "American" citizen, just to see how it is for the average person trying to make it in this economy. Ok, now let's get real. When I saw this on one of the MSM channels, I saw an affluent looking, probably stay at home mother, who is not worrying about the price of milk or much of anything else. I mean, if he wanted to make an impact he should have went with someone who is truly trying to decide between buying milk or bread. Perhaps someone who uses food stamps to pay for food or even a single mom who works everday but finds it hard to make ends meet. I'm not saying that this lady is not in that situation. Perhaps she is..but a picture is worth a thousand words. I'm looking at her attire, her hair, her makeup, her nails, etc.,. and I do not see a struggling "American".

Ok, perhaps I'm being judgmental, but this is my blog and I will call it as I see it. If Senator McCain truly wants to know how it is for the typical American citizen who is struggling to make ends meet, he needs to look no further than the "House" that he's trying to occupy next year. He can just drive around the inner-city DC area. I'm quite sure that there are plenty of good Americans out there that he could of chose to grocery shop with and get the true picture of the way it is.

Victory, Win or Whatever?

Websters define victory as "the winning of a battle, struggle or contest; success in defeating an enemy or an opponent."

During this "War on Terror" the definition of "Victory" has been distorted so much that I'm afraid my school-aged kids will not know the true meaning of winning. The bar has been constantly lowered to define a "WIN". One minute our dear Presdient is landing on an aircraft carrier which has a big banner that states "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!" ....the next minute he is stating that the "SURGE" is working.

Today, as I was perusing the various blogs that I read on a daily basis, I came across the email that was sent to the John McCain camp whereas the NY Times rejected his Op-Ed, which was a response to an Op-Ed by Barack Obama. I think the author of this email really laid it out to McBush, oh I mean McCain regarding his being specific about 'what is a win". Ok, enough of me....you can read it for yourself.

Dear Mr. Goldfarb,
Thank you for sending me Senator McCain's essay. I'd be very eager to publish the Senator on the Op-Ed page. However, I'm not going to be able to accept this piece as currently written. I'd be pleased, though, to look at another draft. Let me suggest an approach. The Obama piece worked for me because it offered new information (it appeared before his speech); while Senator Obama discussed Senator McCain, he also went into detail about his own plans. It would be terrific to have an article from Senator McCain that mirrors Senator Obama's piece. To that end, the article would have to articulate, in concrete terms, how Senator McCain defines victory in Iraq. It would also have to lay out a clear plan for achieving victory — with troops levels, timetables and measures for compelling the Iraqis to cooperate. And it would need to describe the Senator's Afghanistan strategy, spelling out how it meshes with his Iraq plan.

I am going to be out of the office next week. If you decide to re-work thedraft, please be in touch with (Redacted)
Again, thank you for taking the time to send me the Senator's draft. I really hope we can find a way to bring this to a happy resolution.

Sincerely,

David Shipley

Perhaps McCain will let us know what he means by "He can win this war".

Stay tuned!

WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF!!

I just finished my Wednesday scheduled run. Today is my day to do those dreaded Quarter Mile Repeats. If you are a runner then you know that those can be hard...I mean very hard...When I finished you could wring out my shirt, shorts and socks. But oh, what a sense of accomplishment once I did finish. Ok, why am I doing this? I am training for the San Antonio Marathon (the full 26.2 miles) which will take place November 16, 2008..and I'm going to also do the Houston Marathon which is in January 2009 (that thing has already sold out!!!). Do I like running? Not really, but I like the way I feel once I finish a marathon..well, not the pain but the sense of accomplishment. I don't consider myself a super jock or anything like that. As a matter of fact, I have never participated in any form of organized sport.

So as I was running today I kept my eyes on this phrase that I have posted in front of my treadmill.

THE WILL TO RUN

THE BODY DOES NOT WANT YOU TO DO THIS… AS YOU RUN IT TELLS YOU TO STOP…BUT THE MIND MUST BE STRONG…YOU ALWAYS GO TO FAR FOR YOUR BODY….YOU MUST HANDLE THE PAIN WITH STRATEGY….IT IS NOT AGE…IT IS NOT DIET…IT IS THE WILL TO SUCCEED.

Now, why do I do this to myself? I want to stay fit, not just myself, but for my two adorable kids. Investing a little bit of my time into keeping fit is not a lot to ask of myself. I just have to continue to make the time to do so. It's hard, but it's well worth it.

Tananarive Due's New Book

I just finished Tananarive Due's new book "Blood Colony" a book in her African-American Immortal Series. This book was well worth the wait. Her last book in the series "The Living Blood" was published around 2000, so I was gripping at the bits when this one came out. I highly recommend this read. If you haven't read anything by this sister you are truly missing a treat. The first book in this series is "My Soul To Keep".

Ok, besides politics, my first true love is reading...so on this blog you will get plenty of suggestions on what to read.

The Way He Looks At Her

Just look how he looks at her...I can see love, respect, honor...

While we are pondering the lastest New Yorker cover, the Jessie Jackson gaffe and the other ills that have happened with this historical campaign, I came upon this picture and I see a strong united front.
